Administrative Internship Program

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW 

Founded in 1956 with the goal of training and supplying high-quality physicians, the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) is one of Florida’s preeminent academic medical institutions. In partnership with UF Health Shands Hospital, a quaternary-care, safety net teaching hospital with over 1,100 beds and a level-1 trauma center, as well as a network of over 100 UF Health Physicians clinics in North-Central Florida, UFCOM physicians provide leading care to residents of Florida and patients from around the world. Today, UFCOM, under the larger banner of UF Health, has a prolific reputation for world-class education, transformative research, and superior patient care.  

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP  

The UFCOM Administrative Internship Program provides promising early careerists with practical firsthand experience, allowing them to explore and understand different career paths within health administration. The internship program offers a dynamic and immersive environment where interns have the opportunity to work alongside experienced industry leaders dedicated to mentoring and guiding interns, sharing their expertise and knowledge. 

The internship position is a paid role. The administrative interns form an integral part of a collaborative team. They report to the Administrative Fellows who work closely with the Assistant Director of Operations, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Director of Finance to develop impactful projects for the duration of the internship and explore future career opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OPPORTUNITIES 

The UFCOM Administrative Internship Program is a great opportunity for early careerists seeking to develop their skills as future healthcare professionals. With practical experience and mentorship from executive-level teams, Interns gain valuable insight into physician and hospital healthcare operations in an academic medical center environment. 

  • Participating in strategic planning and various health system functions. 
  • Developing technical skills by working with clinical and financial databases and systems. 
  • Fostering and maintaining positive working relationships across the organization. 
  • Cultivating a culture of giving and receiving professional feedback. 
  • Attending key meetings to gain insights into current UFCOM initiatives, executive decision-making, and strategic planning. 
  • Assisting the development of operating budgets for specific service lines and departments. 
  • Preparing reports that highlight financial and non-financial project outcomes. 
  • Conducting data analysis and interpretation for assigned projects.
